WHAT’S DIFFERENT

Everyone experiences culture shock when we go to a new place. Different countries have their own culture. There are both differences and commonalities between China and Italy. Both countries have a long history since ancient times. In this blog, I will talk about the different gesture meaning between Italy and China.

Before we had all these communicating technologies, we human beings communicate with each other through our body language. This can be regarded as one of the oldest languages in the world!!

However, under various culture, people deliver different information even though they are using the same gesture.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES!

Italy: Please, Teacher

China: Victory, Happy

Italy: Invitation

China: Stop

Italy: No good

China: Eight

I came to Australia three years ago and culture shock has got into my mind deeply. When first people saying “ta” to me rather than saying ” Thank you”, I was confused and wonder why people are saying something wierd instead of being grateful!

However, after I get to learnt more about this country and know more Australians, I realised I was wrong! “Ta” is actually an Australian slang that means “Thank you”! How cultrue shock people!

After that, in order to reduce the chance I got wrong about people reactions, I did some research on the Australian culture and learnt some slangs. And now I am able to react back with slangs as well! Some of my Australian friends are suprised when I replied them with slangs! And we get to know each other better since the culture is better understood by me — a foreinger!

To minimise culture shock, the best thing to do is get to know more about the culture. In order to travel smarter, do some research and learn new stuff! Culture shock is amazing, it helps us to learn more!
